"Shaping creativity out of clay"

Every Friday night starting in June, downtown Waukesha gets very lively.  The whole downtown is engulfed in art, live music, demonstrations and much, much more.  Every Friday night The Potter's Shop will be host to many clay focused activities right out front off of Main Street.

Raku Nights

American Raku pottery is a pottery process which yields brilliant colors and striking contrasts.  This process is carried out far different than conventional pottery.  A raku piece is glazed in a highly metalic glaze, then fired to 1800 degrees.  After about 30 minutes, and a rapid and chaotic process the piece is then removed from the kiln and cooled in a metal container.  This process allows the surface of the piece to be oxidized, bringing to the piece brilliant colors.

The whole night is dedicated to the exciting process of Raku fired pottery.

This is how it works:

  • Pick out a pre-made Handthrown pot
  • Glaze the piece in your choice of glazes
  • Hand your piece off to the profesional Raku fire-ers
  • Then relax with the surrounding music and watch your pot magically transform into a beutifully finished piece.
  • After about 45 minutes, your piece is done and ready to take home.

All you have to do is come on out!!!

$15/ piece
